Virgil Thompson for 2nd Vice President - Professional

As you prepare to cast your vote for the position of Second Vice President of AFGE Local 96, I would like to introduce myself and share my vision for leadership within our union. My name is Virgil Thompson, and I am honored to have the opportunity to represent you.

With over 21 years of service in the Air Force and Reserve, I bring a wealth of experience and dedication to public service. I also have over 10 years of experience with the Veterans Affairs (VA) and 6 years with the Department of Defense (DOD) Civil Service. My background equips me with a deep understanding of the challenges our members face in both Title 5 and Title 38 roles.

My commitment to community involvement extends beyond my professional endeavors. I have volunteered with the Urban League, assisting with back-to-school handouts, and have participated in motorcycle rides to support BackStoppers, showing my dedication to uplifting those around me.
I believe that effective leadership is not just about making decisions—it's about being an active listener and addressing the concerns of our members. As the famous saying goes, “Leaders are the best listeners,” and I am committed to hearing the voices of all employees. Leadership is not merely a role I seek; it is a calling to serve and advocate for our members.

If elected as Second Vice President, I will ensure that our local organizers receive the necessary training and support to empower all members. I will fulfill my responsibilities diligently, striving to uphold the values of our union.
